“Fears over the health of the under-fives have sparked the publication of new guidelines on how best to feed pre-school youngsters. According to the School Food Trust charity, some children are being given meals more suitable for adults resulting in them eating too much salt and sugar and not enough energy, carbohydrates and essential minerals.The voluntary guidelins mean child carers will, for the first time, get nationally-recognised advice “For the first time, childcare providers have a nationally-recognised source of information about the foods they should offer young children, portion sizes, sample menus and recipes, advice on tackling fussy eating and involving children in food and cooking activities”
